Your personalized tour of Janesville’s award-winning historic house museum includes all five levels from the basement where food is stored, to the cupola where the the servants hang the laundry to dry. Each level is restored to its 1857 splendor and is completed with furnishings belonging to the Tallman family.The Tallman house had five family members and two servants who were brother and sister. This 26 room Italianate villa style mansion is the only private home still in existence that can boast Abraham Lincoln as an overnight guest. Learn the story of Lincoln's extra night's stay during his 1859 visit. The original cost of the home was $33,000 in gold.

Special Notes and Features of this Attraction:

  • Expect to spend at least 1 ½ hours at this attraction.
  • Only guided tours are offered of the Lincoln-Tallman House.
  • Admission to the Lincoln-Tallman House and Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center is $8 for adults, $7 for Seniors & College Student with ID, $4 for Children ages 5-17 and Veterans with ID, and free for children under 5.
  • Admission to the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center only is $4 for adults, $3.50 for Seniors & College Student with ID, $2 for Children ages 5-17 and Veterans with ID, and free for children under 5.
  • Discounts are available for AAA, AAM, AMM, WFM and AASLH members.
  • MasterCard and VISA are accepted.
  • The Lincoln-Tallman House has wheelchair lift to first floor only. There are three levels of stairways in the house. You are not required to tour all 5 levels.
  • The Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center is ADA compliant.
  • Public restrooms are available at the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center. 


Group Information:

Group reservations are made by calling the phone numbers listed on the front.

  • 1st Group tour of the day starts at 8:30 a.m.
  • Last Group tour of the day varies. They have done evening tours.
  • Group tours are conducted year round daily.
  • A special group rate for the Lincoln-Tallman House and Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center is $6 for adults and $3.50 for Children ages 5-17.
  • Motorcoach Parking is available.

Tour groups report to the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center at 426 N. Jackson St.

Tours of the Lincoln-Tallman House will be adjusted to the needs of the guests in the group.

Directions:

From Interstate 90 take Exit 171 A. Take Highway 26/Milton Avenue south for approximately 3 miles. Turn right at the stoplights onto Centerway Avenue. Go west about 1 mile and cross the Rock River. Turn right at the stoplights onto Franklin Street. Go a short distance up a hill and turn left on to Mineral Point Street. Your first left will be Jackson Street.
