Your personalized tour of Janesville’s award-winning historic house museum includes all five levels from the basement where food is stored, to the cupola where the the servants hang the laundry to dry. Each level is restored to its 1857 splendor and is completed with furnishings belonging to the Tallman family.The Tallman house had five family members and two servants, whh were brother and sister.  This 26 room Italianate villa style mansion is the only private home still in existence that can boast Abraham Lincoln as an overnight guest.  Learn the story of Lincoln's extra night's stay during his 1859 visit. The original cost of the home was $33,000 in gold.

Special Notes/Features of this attraction:

• You can spend 1 ½ hours on average at this attraction. Only guided tours are offered.
• The cost of the tour is $8.00 (Adults), $4.00 (Ages 6-18), $7.50 (Senior Citizens).
• Mastercard and VISA are accepted.
• Three levels of stairways in the house. Members of tours are not required to tour all 5 levels.
• Gift shop in the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center,  open 9 am – 4 pm.
• No food or refreshments available for purchase.
• Public restrooms.
• Visitor Center is ADA compliant.
• Lincoln-Tallman House has wheelchair lift to first floor only.
• Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center features local exhibits on display.

Group Information:

Group reservations are made by calling the phone numbers listed on the front.

• 1st Group tour of the day starts at 8:30 a.m.
• Last Group tour of the day varies. They have done evening tours.
• Group tours are conducted year round daily.
• Group cost per person $7.50.
• Motorcoach Parking is available.

Tour groups report to the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center at 426 N. Jackson St.

Tours of the Lincoln-Tallman House will be adjusted to the needs of the guests in the group.

Directions:

From Interstate 90 take Exit 171 A. Take Highway 26/Milton Avenue south for approximately 3 miles. Turn right at the stoplights onto Centerway Avenue. Go west about 1 mile and cross the Rock River. Turn right at the stoplights onto Franklin Street. Go a short distance up a hill and turn left on to Mineral Point Street. Your first left will be Jackson Street.
