The Milton House Museum is pleased to welcome historic reenactor Rita Dow as she portrays Carrie Nation, an early feminist and radical prohibitionist who became one of the most recognizable figures of the temperance movement. Best known for smashing saloons with her hatchet, Nation referred to her dramatic acts of protest as hatchetations. Over the course of her activism, she was arrested more than thirty times for her efforts to fight the sale of alcohol and advocate for social reform.
