Dr. Ashley Dimmig, Crossman Gallery Director and Art History Lecturer at UW-Whitewater, will share some of the innovative ways she has been engaging art and art history students in both the gallery and the classroom. From projects like writing articles for Wikipedia and creating a gallery guide about the Parthenon frieze replicas in the Cultural Arts Center in Whitewater, Dimmig has been prioritizing assignments that have a real-world impact, locally and globally. In the gallery, she has been working with students on several projects with the dual aim of training the next generation of museum professionals and improving the ways we steward and grow the permanent art collection on campus, from honoring Native American cultural patrimony to asking students to review and vote on new artworks to purchase.
