The Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau hosts our Art Infusion event each year in September, featuring a professional street artist creating a sidewalk chalk art mural, and a competition for sidewalk chalk artists of all skill levels. Following the success of the Black Hawk mural created in 2019 by spray paint artist Jeff Henriquez and commissioned by Nigella Ryan, Art Infusion 2020 saw the exciting addition of painted outdoor wall murals at five downtown locations. The mural component creates another link to the arts and allows us to continue to develop new art that will be available for the community and visitors to enjoy year-round and for years to come.
Since its inception in 2011, Art Infusion has continued to evolve and bring positive attention to the community, its attractions and especially the downtown area. In addition to the competition, there are opportunities for attendees to draw for fun and free sidewalk chalk art instruction is held for Janesville students.
In previous years sidewalk chalk artists created their artwork along the river walk adjacent to Firehouse Park. In 2020, chalk artists were spread out throughout the downtown in an effort to keep safe distances between them. This was just the type of event that Janesville needed in the midst of a pandemic, combining a sense of community with open air/social distancing opportunities over a period of eight to ten days.In 2021, the Art Infusion Mural Week is September 4 - 12, and the Art Infusion Chalk Art Competition will take place on September 10 - 12.
