Choose a safe way to take one or two different educational tours of Oak Hill, the oldest operating burial ground in Janesville. Guided tours bring history to life by sharing stories of the dead, researched by local history experts. Guests are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather as October can be rainy, cold, or both. There will be a limited number of people per tour, so buy your tickets online early. This tour is educational in nature and is not a haunted experience. Oak Hill is a working cemetery. All headstones, mausoleums, and burial plots should be treated with respect. Tours held Wednesdays through Saturdays, departing from Oak Hill Chapel on the hour from 1 PM through 5 PM (last tour at 5 PM). Masks and socially distancing will be in place; maximum tour size is 20 people. Tickets available online or by calling the RCHS. If space allows, tickets may be sold at the cemetery immediately preceding each tour (cash only). All tours are outdoors at 1725 N. Washington St., Janesville.
Burials, Folklore and the Role of the Cemetery: While visiting the graves of many of the grounds' most interesting residents, hear the superstitions and history of all things related to cemeteries. This tour runs 2 – 3 PM and 4 – 5 PM on each tour day.
The Women of Oak Hill: This tour celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote. Many of the women buried in Oak Hill were trailblazers, and you'll visit some of them in this fascinating tour. This tour runs 1 – 2 PM; 3 – 4 PM; and 5 – 6 PM. on each tour day.
