Local historian Pete Skelly will present this program on the life of Joseph (Ira) Dutton. Skelly, who takes an interest in the human side of history and recently handled Dutton’s rediscovered papers, will share his understanding of the man who came to be known as Brother Dutton. Dutton moved to Janesville with his parents when he was four years old. After growing up in Janesville, he enlisted in the 13th Wisconsin Infantry and fought in the Civil War. Discover the difficult turns in Dutton’s path to faith and his personal conversion that ultimately led to a life of service on the Hawaiian island of Molokai.
