A BioBlitz, also known as a biological inventory or biological census, is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. The primary goal of a BioBlitz is to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms that live in a place. This event begins with a short introduction on a BioBlitz and the corresponding app, iNaturalist. Participants must download the app on their smartphone to participate in this event. While this is a family-friendly offering, this event is most suitable for kids 8+. This event can be treated like an open house, so feel free to join in at any time during the day. However, if you are new to a BioBlitz, coming to the 8 AM introduction is encouraged. Advance registration is recommended. In the event of inclement weather the BioBlitz will be held on Sunday, June 23. Those who RSVP in advance will be notified by phone or email if the program is moved to the scheduled rain date.
